I am not hard of hearing, so I can’t speak to the usefulness of this device for those folks, but this device worked well in all the areas in which I tried it out.

I wore it around a grocery store and out in the woods, and found that it gave me considerable control over volume and assisted in hearing certain things.

In the store, I could easily get it loud enough to be uncomfortable, and could hear softer sounds amplified with greater clarity. The use of some form(s) of sound processing was obvious, and anyone used to the “breathing” of poorly adjusted audio compression will know what I mean.

Again, not being impaired (I actually test about 10db better than average for my age, except at one narrow frequency band, despite years of loud music and guitar playing in my youth), the effects were more annoying than useful to me, but I can easily see that this could be quite handy for people with certain kinds of hearing problems.

The processing did seem able to help separate near field conversation from background noise, especially in the woods.

As a wireless headset for media playback, I was quite pleased with the quality of the sound. The included earbuds were comfortable (different sized fittings for the earbuds are included), and the sound quality quite good for this kind of headset. (I have been spoiled by recording studio quality headsets, and Koss Pro4AAs were my headset of choice even for casual listening for a long time.)

The earbuds provided quite good sound, and I watched many, many hours of video from YouTube and Amazon without fatigue or discomfort. It was nice to wander around the living room and even the kitchen without losing any audio quality or volume.

I had no problems with signal or linking (the wireless is Bluetooth), and connections to the bas unit were easy and clear.

I could get quite used to this system. If you are in the market for something to use for wireless audio and audio assistance in conversation or public places, I would definitely give this a shot. I think it could be very useful.

This is a very handy device. It’s an audio enhancer, which is to say, an aid for hearing. It can be hooked directly to a device, like a phone or iPod, which is nice. Even better, it can be hooked directly to a TV. What this means is that if you live in a noisy home, you can just put in your headphones, and hear the vital part of your whodunnit without having to try to shush everyone around you…and miss the vital part because you were being so loud shushing people!

As an added bonus, you can use it as a sort of old-fashioned hearing aid. With the earbuds in your ears, and the device in your pocket, you can amplify the sounds around you. The device claims to reduce background noise, and it does do that some, but it is not a real hearing aid, which amplifies only the frequencies that you need amplified. So, do not even consider buying this as a replacement for a hearing aid.

Nonetheless, I have found this to be a really handy thing to have sometimes, and I keep it plugged in, under my TV. I like it!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program (What’s this?)

Many years ago I remember visiting the grandparents only to encounter the TV blaring so loud you could literally hear it through the front door. It was a bit of a standing joke in the family. Now, as much as I hate to admit it, as we grow older things don’t seem to work as well as in the past…including the hearing. A few too many super loud concerts combined with lack of protective ear covering for decades have resulted in hearing problems. Not enough to warrant a hearing aid per se (although it may eventually come to it) but sufficient enough that it is a CONSTANT battle to watch TV, listen to the radio, talk in a loud restaurant etc…those of you who are middle to older age and live with a spouse or with some hearing loss of your own know what I’m referring to!

So, when this came up for review it was a no-brainer. Watching TV has become a real struggle in our household..to get the sound loud enough to accommodate for hearing problems meant blasting the other out of the house. Parties, very busy dinner conversations and even talking on the phone with background noise are other major problems.

This arrived promptly and was charged overnight to provide a sufficient test. I call it a test but it has now been used daily since its arrival. There seems to be a bit of a slight problem on our unit…everything charges properly but the red indicator light never turns green. Not a big deal as it hasn’t impacted actual performance but a bit annoying.

Aside from that this is fairly easy to use; it comes with several settings including pre-recorded relaxation sound loops which are surprisingly nice. The waterfall and thunderstorm were personal favorites – the other two will eventually allow the loop to become noticed but all are very well done.

Packaging and the recharging unit was all more than adequate. The unit itself feels well made. It has a decent substance/heft and provides the feeling that it will last (although only time will tell in reality).

TV watching has been an ABSOLUTE hit in this household! Both of us couldn’t be more pleased! Simply hook this up and it not only provides superior sound but has the added benefit of being able to walk from room to room without missing a beat. No more having to hassle with the sound up/down up/down where both of us are unhappy – the sound blaring but still unable to discern the conversation. This device breaks down the sound so conversation on the TV is more clear even with other background noise etc… works FANTASTIC. If there was one suggestion in regard to the TV setting it would be to add yet another lower level of sound to help with those ridiculously loud movies/films. Otherwise, what a DELIGHTFUL product that everyone in the house will appreciate as well as the user who finally has full enjoyment of TV once again.

Use with the phone is a bit more troublesome but well worth it especially if there is background music or other noise in the room. Here the settings require more adjusting to grow familiar with and for short conversations it’s probably more effort than what its worth for all but the more important conversations.

The one area where this wasn’t all that practical was outside the home. Restaurants are another major problem especially louder ones. However, sharp noises seem to resonate especially loudly making it a bit of a disruption of its very own. Additionally, wearing fairly visible earbugs didn’t feel quite right…at least not yet.

To date, it has been used daily although really put to the test in the home environment rather than outside the home. Attending a seminar or other more sound neutral setting would also seem fitting although areas subject to really loud or sharp noises can result in more distraction than not. TV setting is fantastic.

As a side note, for those with normal hearing…this won’t give super hearing or allow you much advantage. The other individual in the household with good hearing tried this out and found it abrasive if not distracting at best. The actual user has light to moderate hearing problems with speech and specific sounds for which this works beautifully.

Bottom line…if you are not yet quite ready for a hearing aid but need some hearing assistance this could be the product you have been searching for. GREAT tool. Easy to use. Seems well built with the exception of the nagging indicator light.
