Digital ones are supposed to be better as they can filter out all the rubbish from background noise etc. although reliability seems to be a little iffy with some.

For the type of hearing loss I have the only option would be an implant which goes under the skin behind the ear and also inside the skull, then connects directly to the end of the auditory nerve. Might well be useful as it bypasses the ear essentially.

Oh it erm, costs about $ 50,000 for a pair…!

  1. mrhearing says:

Well a severe hearing loss doesn’t warrant a cochlear implant. But there are lots of what we call big boomers out there. A severe loss is not as bad as it sounds I have a moderate/severe loss.
Most times we select behind the ears style becuae of all the features, Beltone and Unitron have some nice models.
However, most of the companies all have good severe style instruments.’
Not a lot new in the field since most of the technology goes of rmild losses or the baby boomers.
Look at adding a FM system like a “mylink” from Phonak that will make any BTE work wonders.
Remeber, if you don’t like it return it stay away from mini aids or open ear / receiver in the canal style, they will not fit your hearing loss.
