Q&A: What does a “hold” on a procedure mean?

Question by J B: What does a “hold” on a procedure mean?
My daughter is scheduled for an ABR hearing test, but the provider called and said there is a “hold” on all tests of this type. They would not perform any of these procedures, nor would they schedule any new tests. The person on the phone would not elaborate on why they were cancelling the tests. Can someone illuminate what a “hold” means in health care jargon?
