Q&A: What can I do if I was denied counsel in a temporary custody hearing for my son last week? After asking for ?

Question by bowlinbby: What can I do if I was denied counsel in a temporary custody hearing for my son last week? After asking for ?
counsel, the judge stated that because it was a temporary hearing, she thought that we could proceed without one. I was not qualified to represent myself when my ex-husband had an attorney, and now she has granted him every other weekend visitation- which is not in my son’s best interest… he has been estranged for 10 years. HELP!

Get to legal aid, and appeal. EOW sounds usual and customary.

  1. goz1111 says:

Talk to legal aid; but, in general for civil hearing such as yours in family court, there is no right to have legal council if you can not afford one even if your ex has representation

But even with legal representation highly doubt you could have stop the courts from ordering every other visitation unless you could demonstrate the ex home environment was inappropriate for a child very hard legal burden
