Devices that fit over the ear and attach to the ear with a custom ear mold are the most economical and safe for children because as there ears grow you only need to replace the ear mold. They also provide the most power, which your child will need. You should also look for a device that couples to an FM system. An FM system is a device with a microphone that delivers the wearers voice directly to the hearing aid so the speech is clearer than the ambient noise. This is important to have when your child starts to walk, but most important when they start school. The school board should provide the FM system through the Americans with Disabilities Act. I like Phonak for pediatric aids, but most of the big companies have good devices. You can typically use a headband to help hold the aids to the babies ears, but it is always going to be something you have to be diligent about. I hope his helps, best of luck to you.
