Question by CurlyQMaex3: My mom is hard of hearing and it gets annoying when I have to repeat myself all the time. Help ?
I love my mom very much, but she’s hard of hearing and I always have to yell or repeat myself so many times and she wont do anything to help her. Her hearing aids broke but she won’t get new ones. Any suggestions for her to improve her hearing?

  1. Alissa, R.N. says:

Either get her hearing aids fixed / replaced or

Speak clearly, loudly and only after you get her attention and while you’re looking AT her so she can see you.

Well I’m sorry but the only way you can improve her hearing is by getting her new hearing aids. Unless if you’re God, that is.

Would one of these help? I have no idea how well they work but they certainly are cheap enough.

check ears regularly for wax plugs. Treat for allergies and water-build up in ears. i don’t blame her on the aids…frankly ,they are really expensive.rarely covered by insurance, and need frequent adjustments. My dad hates his; it takes a lot of visits to the distant doc to keep them tuned-up. he pays thousands of dollars for his, and the batteries ain’t cheap either. They don’t work in all circumstances on top of it. it can be a safety issue so you might want to explore that with your mom. Ok…I just spoke with my dad and he amended my information here. He said that the first aid he got was bad. He changed brands and it took a couple of trips to get it adjusted and then it works great. He changes batteries once a week for about 50 cents. His cost 3000. EACH, but he says they work great. His neighbor just paid $ 3500. EACH and got a brand that , if you wear a device around your neck, recieves the TV audio right into the hearing aid, in addition to being a regular hearing aid. This might really appeal to your mom. Don’t know what to say about the cost..isn’t that rediculious??? My dad says then the aids will last about 5 years…a little less if you live in an area with high humidity….and it seems to be worth it to go high-end on the aids.
