Q&A: Is testing for Downs or other genetic problems worth it?

Question by Cassie: Is testing for Downs or other genetic problems worth it?
I heard that the test is dangerous and can cause miscarriage, and it isn’t even that accurate. Would it be worth it though to test?

Ive heard that too. My cousin got it done for her baby whom they thought had downs and it turned out she was incredibly healthy. My husband and I just signed saying we dont want it done. It wouldnt change anything for us, either way we would keep our baby.

the amnio can be dangerous but is incredibly accurate they have a less accurate way of testing earlier on, thats also risk free, just an ultrasound and mom gets blood work, if that one shows risk they can do the amnio

That would be a question better suited for yourself, what would you do if you had a baby with a sickness? Personally I wouldn’t get tested, because no matter what it is my baby and I would love it no matter what. No sense in putting it’s life at risk.
