A friend of mine got me one of these as a gift as he knew I needed something for my Dad’s house. I was going out of town and I installed one of these in my Dad’s bathroom (he’s 85 and just had hip surgery). When I say install I mean set up. It was VERY easy and included everything I needed. I put it in the bathroom next to the sink but pretty low to the ground. Then I set up the base station in the kitchen. They included a telephone line splitter so I can use it in the same outlet as his cordless phone ( including the splitter was very thoughtful of them so I didn’t have to go to Radio Shack to buy anything else).

It’s important to note that there is NO monthly service fee like other solutions. You just buy the device and use your current telephone service. It’s that simple.

I finally have some peace of mind that my Dad can get help quickly if I am not around. I think I am going to get 3-4 more of the handsets to put in other places of the house.

Obviously, I highly recommend this product. It really gives me peace of mind.

The Just In Case 911 alert system seems to be the best gift I can get for my aging aunt in the Bronx. Unbelievable but she still lives in the same apartment for around the past 50 years. She lives by herself and I thought the Just in Case would be her lifeline to the outside world if God forbid, she had an accident, fall, or other emergency. All we needed to do was plug the base station into the wall socket (AC adapter was provided), plug the provided phone cord into the phone company jack, put the batteries (also provided) into into the handset, follow the users manual to check that all was working (there is a test procedure which obviously avoids really dialing “911”), and the Just in Case was set up and ready for use. I think this gives a good feeling of added security to my aunt when she is alone. I hope that this Just in Case is the one gift she will never need to use.

I’m a heavy sleeper compounded by the fact that I need to get up before the sun. I would set 2 alarms with my cell phone as a backup and still sometimes sleep through them only waking up when there was a little light out. I bought this because of the stated volume it was capable of. I’m a little dissapointed in that part of it, my Phillips alarm clock is much louder than this thing BUT between the bed shaker and the ability to turn on a light it wakes me right up. I’m not sure which one does it, I think its the lamp with the 100 watt bulb it flashes. I would definately recommend getting this model with the light module.

My father has tinnitus (constant loud ringing in the ears) and hearing loss. This device has been useful not only as an alarm clock, but has function as the hub for various signaling devices. First off, the most important feature is the ability to select the frequency of the sounding device. My father cannot hear upper frequencies, so your typical electronic alarm is inaudible to him. This device can also be triggered by other devices besides wake-up time. For example, Sonic Alert sells a door bell module which will wirelessly make the alarm clock signal. I have also placed a Sonic Alert “baby monitor” close to the smoke detector. The noise of the detector which, again is high pitched and hard for him to hear, easily triggers the baby monitor which in turn wirelessly signals the alarm clock. I recently purchased a driveway monitor for my Dad as well (different manufacturer). Again, the hi-pitched chime was totally inaudible to him, but by installing it near the baby monitor, it caused that to ring the alarm clock.

Finally, you can purchase additional “Sonic Alert” remote horns which also feature an adjustable frequency output and put these in other locations in the house. Thus these horns, as well as this alarm clock, can be triggered by the Sonic Alert door bell module or baby monitor.

UPDATE: One thing I did not anticipate is that the baby monitor will also false alarm for loud sounds like thunder. So I’ve had the problem where my father will disable the alarm when this happens but forget to turn it back on.

This item has been wonderful for the year it has worked. Perhaps those that need all the bells and whistles to wake up have to suffer the consequences that a bunch of bells and whistles give you more to go wrong. I don’t think we’ve ever had an alarm clock die so quickly – but WOW! It actually woke my husband up for the full year! So, regardless of it’s longevity – we’ll probably replace it with another.
