This review is from: Fundamentals of Hearing, Fifth Edition: An Introduction (Hardcover)
While a must-read, Yost’s writing is dense and difficult. This reviewer has a Ph.D. in French and is therefore not unused to reading arcane and obscure texts. The information could be presented in a much more straight forward style. However, given the fact that audiology programs have a high weed-out component, this could be why this textbook has survived as a leading basic textbook. The skillful reader will be able to appreciate what an exciting discipline audiology can be. It will only be the determined, expert reader who will be able to use the text well. Advice to the young person who is faced with this book: hang in there–yes, it is difficult to read, and no, you should not write this way if it ever becomes your turn to write a textbook!
