Can my employer make me get hearing/vision testing and drug testing on my own time?

Question by noremadogre: Can my employer make me get hearing/vision testing and drug testing on my own time?
in an attempt to save money, the company i work for are now requiring the employees to get hearing, vision, and urine testing off site and on our own time. I already know of one employee that was told he needed to go for a hearing test on his own time and he refused…he’s still an employee. So, this begs the question I have asked here…

  1. Care O says:

Of course they can, most companies require those to go to drug testing at an outside facility on their own time.

If the company you work for is making it mandatory that you do these tests then they have to pay you for your time. They can not require you to go take a drug test on your own time if you are already a company employee.
Now if they require these test for pre-employment screening then no they do not have to pay you for it.
Of course this is dependent on what state you live in; as employment laws vary. But as a general rule this is what most states would go by.
